Challenge for Designation of School Complex Facility in 2024

On the 6th, Ulleung-gun, Gyeongbuk, held an education issue briefing session for parents, students, and residents at the Ulleung-gun Office.

This briefing session was organized to present the vision and strategy of the Education Development Special Zone and to gather residents' opinions by explaining the 2023 and 2024 school complex facility projects, aiming for the successful designation of Ulleung-type Education Development Special Zone pilot area.

The Ulleung-type Education Development Special Zone plans to invest project funds starting in 2024 to create a differentiated educational environment unique to Ulleung by utilizing human and material resources from cooperating institutions, universities, and companies.

Ulleung-gun has established strategies for the Education Development Special Zone as ▲digital education innovation for elementary, middle, and high schools ▲leading Ulleung learning communities through university agreements ▲building an integrated early childhood and DX education platform. Specifically, it explained ▲operation of AI digital education programs ▲customized educational support and reduction of academic gaps ▲global language education through university cooperation.

Plans for mutual growth between schools and the community through school complex facilities were also set. Through the Daieumteo (Ulleung Student Gymnasium) selected in 2023, public libraries and the Neulbom Center will support student growth and provide various programs to local residents, serving as a place for mutual exchange. Additionally, through the 2024 school complex facility application (Ulleung High School), they plan to secure a complex sports facility that includes integrated early childhood spaces and AI digital education spaces.

Nam Han-kwon, the county governor, said, “If designated as an Education Development Special Zone, Ulleung will overcome regional limitations to nurture global talents, and a system will be created where talents can find employment or start businesses through connections between Ulleung-gun, Ulleung High School, universities, and companies.” He added, “Furthermore, we will develop the school complex facilities into core spaces like Neulbom and integrated early childhood centers to create a happy Ulleung for children and parents.”

Ulleung-gun collected residents' opinions through surveys and website feedback to prepare promotion plans for the Education Development Special Zone. They are also joining forces with the Ulleung Office of Education by forming a local council to attract the Education Development Special Zone.
