Resolution of the Joint Proposal by Assemblymen Kim Haewon and Hong Youngseop Approved at the Plenary Session
The Naju City Council (Chairman Lee Sang-man) has urged the opening of the "Gwangju-Naju Metropolitan Railroad."
According to the Naju City Council on the 5th, the "Resolution Urging the Opening of the Gwangju-Naju Metropolitan Railroad," jointly proposed by council members Kim Hae-won and Hong Young-seop, was approved at the 2nd plenary session on the same day.
The resolution calls on Gwangju Metropolitan City to ▲present measures to enable the Gwangju-Naju Metropolitan Railroad project to pass the preliminary feasibility study ▲undertake and conduct the feasibility study for the route change at Hyochon Station at its own expense on behalf of Jeollanam-do and Naju City, who cooperated with the route change ▲and to take responsibility for expanding transportation infrastructure for the development of Gwangju and Jeonnam even if the metropolitan railroad project is stalled.
The Gwangju-Naju Metropolitan Railroad project has progressed from discussions between Jeollanam-do and Gwangju City starting in 2019 to reflect it in the 4th National Railroad Network Construction Plan, to being selected as a preliminary feasibility study target by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in May 2023.
Council member Kim Hae-won said, "It is important that Gwangju Metropolitan City, which wants to change the route, independently conducts the feasibility study for the route change and presents measures to pass the preliminary feasibility study so that the metropolitan railroad project proceeds normally."
The adopted resolution will be delivered to the President, the Speaker of the National Assembly, floor leaders of each political party, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, the Governor of Jeollanam-do, the Korea National Railway Corporation, and others.
