28-Item Health Checkup, 20,000 KRW Out-of-Pocket Fee
Gyeongsangnam-do supports health checkup costs for parents caring for disabled children who are experiencing financial difficulties.
Gyeongnam Province announced on the 5th that it will continue to implement the ‘Low-Income Disabled Parents Health Checkup Cost Support Project,’ which was launched in 2023 to realize the vision of the 8th term provincial administration, ‘Happy Residents.’
The province provides comprehensive health checkup costs to parents or grandparents of severely disabled children among basic livelihood medical benefit recipients who are generally vulnerable to health management.
According to the province, this year’s project targets those born in even-numbered years aged 40 and above.
The checkup items include about 80 types across 28 categories such as diabetes, liver function, and thyroid tests, conducted at six major public medical institutions in the province: ▲Gyeongsang National University Hospital ▲Changwon Gyeongsang National University Hospital ▲Yangsan Pusan National University Hospital ▲Gyeongsangnam-do Masan Medical Center ▲Tongyeong Red Cross Hospital ▲Geochang Red Cross Hospital.
The province supports 180,000 KRW of the checkup cost, and the remaining amount is covered by the medical institutions, so the checkup recipients only need to pay 20,000 KRW.
The province plans to invest a budget of 22 million KRW this year to support about 120 low-income disabled parents in the province.
Those who wish to receive the checkup can make a prior reservation by phone or visit the medical institution and then undergo the checkup on the reserved date.
Each recipient must prepare documents to verify eligibility when visiting the medical institution, such as an ID card, the child’s disability certificate or welfare card, medical benefit recipient certificate, and resident registration or family relation certificate.
For more details, inquiries can be made to the Gyeongnam Province Medical Policy Division, Disability Welfare Division, or the medical institutions supporting the checkups.
Gu Byeong-yeol, head of the Medical Policy Division, said, “We will do our best to support comprehensive health checkup costs for parents of disabled children facing financial difficulties to enable early disease detection and reduce medical expenses.”
