Geumcheon-gu Distributes Lunar New Year Prepaid Meal Cards to Food-Insecure Children... Over 1,400 Children Receive Holiday Greeting Cards and Prepaid Meal Cards... From February 7 to June 30, Usable at Over 2,400 Restaurants with 30,000 KRW per Person
Yuseong Hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon District
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will support the ‘Dongnebangne Happiness Card,’ which can be used at restaurants for up to 30,000 KRW, for children at risk of food insecurity during the Lunar New Year.
The ‘Dongnebangne Happiness Card’ is a prepaid card provided to children who may face food shortages during the holiday period. A holiday greeting card is also provided, and the card can be used at approximately 2,400 general restaurants within Geumcheon-gu.
Since Chuseok 2021, the district has been distributing these cards annually during major holidays (Lunar New Year and Chuseok) to children at risk of food insecurity. To date, over 8,600 children have received the card.
The support targets about 1,400 children who, as of the Lunar New Year in February 2024, are using the Child Meal Card (Kkum Namu Card) at their local community service centers, receiving food support, or using group meal facilities.
Recipients who already have the Dongnebangne Happiness Card can use their existing cards, which will be automatically recharged, without a separate application. New applicants or those who have lost their cards can obtain a new one at their local community service center.
Children holding the card can use it at general restaurants within Geumcheon-gu from February 7 to June 30. The list of participating restaurants can be found on the ‘Geumcheon News’ section of the Geumcheon-gu website. Any unused balance will expire after June 30.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “We hope that children who receive the Dongnebangne Happiness Card will not feel isolated and enjoy a joyful holiday season. We also ask residents to look out for children around them who may be skipping meals.”
