Dongdaemun-gu Seoul Hanbang Promotion Center Recognized as a Tourist Destination Accessible for Travelers with Disabilities
Excellent Facility Accessibility, Operation of Restrooms and Parking for Disabled, and Convenience Facilities for Infants and Toddlers
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Ilpyeong Lee), located in the Seoul Yakryeongsi, a traditional Korean medicine industry special zone, has had the Seoul Korean Medicine Promotion Center (Seoul Yakryeongsi Korean Medicine Museum) selected as an ‘Excellent Universal Tourism Facility’ by the Seoul Tourism Foundation in 2023.
The ‘Excellent Universal Tourism Facility’ selection project is a newly established initiative in 2023 by the Seoul Tourism Foundation to create a tourism environment that is convenient for everyone to travel, including vulnerable tourists such as people with disabilities, the elderly, and those accompanied by infants and young children.
The evaluation was conducted through document review and on-site visits. The Seoul Korean Medicine Promotion Center was recognized as an excellent facility for vulnerable tourists in various aspects, including ▲easy facility accessibility ▲operation of restrooms and parking lots for people with disabilities ▲elevator operation ▲infant and young child convenience facilities ▲clean hygiene conditions ▲provision of sign language content, leading to its final selection.
With this selection, the center will receive a certificate of excellence as a universal tourism facility and benefits such as online promotional support through Seoul Danurim Tourism and inclusion in universal tourism promotional materials.
A representative of the Seoul Korean Medicine Promotion Center stated, “As a landmark of Korean medicine wellness, we believe the Korean Medicine Promotion Center should be a space where anyone can comfortably rest,” and added, “We will continue to strive to become a tourist destination that anyone can enjoy without inconvenience.”
Meanwhile, the Seoul Korean Medicine Promotion Center (Seoul Yakryeongsi Korean Medicine Museum) continues efforts to promote the excellent value of Korean medicine not only domestically but also globally, in collaboration with tourism specialized organizations such as the Korea Tourism Organization and the Seoul Tourism Foundation.
