18.2km from Naesan-ri Sambo Rest Area to Jung 3-ri Village Hall
Course 13 of the Gyeonggi Dullegil is an 18.2 km trail that stretches from Naesan-ri Sambo Rest Area to Jung 3-ri Village Hall. It takes about 7 hours and 30 minutes to walk. Since Bogaesan, which this trail crosses, is the highest mountain in Yeoncheon, the difficulty level of this trail is also high.
From Yeoncheon Public Bus Terminal, you can take a regular bus for about an hour and get off at Samgak-dong stop. Here, you can find the starting point of this trail. Walking along the forest road that goes upstream through the village valley and around the waist of Godaesan, the flat path soon turns into an uphill climb. From here, Bogaesan begins.
Bogaesan (877m) is the highest mountain in Yeoncheon. It is a mountain that embraces dense forests and rugged cliffs. It was originally called Yeongjusan, but it is said that Muhak Daesa renamed it Bogaesan. Bogae refers to the ornamental finial on top of a Buddha's tomb. The highest peak, Jijangbong, is made up of large rock formations, and it is said to have been named because it resembles wearing a bogae.
Here lie the ruins of Bogaesan Fortress, where King Gungye is said to have lived during the Goryeo Dynasty. It is said that after being defeated by King Wang Geon, Gungye built this fortress to prepare for a counterattack. Crossing over the northern ridge of Bogaesan leads to Pocheon. The path descends along the Jijangsan valley. Jijangsan is connected to Bogaesan and is famous for its tuff rock formations. You can find it by following the flower path where wildflowers bloom in the valley. Especially in early spring, the wildflowers create a spectacular view.
When you come down from the mountain, you will see Jung-ri Reservoir. It is a place where water flowing down from the valleys of Jijangbong of Bogaesan and Jongjasan is dammed. Here is Jung-ri Theme Park Fishing Site. It is considered one of the best freshwater fishing facilities in Korea. The water is clean and no invasive species have entered, so you can catch native fish species. Even if you do not enjoy fishing, it is a great place. In spring or autumn, the floating fishing platforms seen through the settling mist create a photo zone harmonized with the mountain scenery.
