Couple Owns Entire Building
Rental Corporation Loan Presumed Delinquent
Residents of an urban-style residential complex with about 140 households located in Danwon-gu, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi Province, have filed a lawsuit against the landlord, claiming they are at risk of not receiving their jeonse deposit refunds.
The Ansan Danwon Police Station in Gyeonggi announced on the 2nd that on the 30th of last month, they received a complaint from 76 residents of the A urban-style residential complex requesting an investigation into landlord couple Mr. and Mrs. B on charges of fraud, and have begun an investigation.
The A urban-style residential complex consists of 147 units, including studios and one-bedroom apartments ranging from 23 to 59 square meters, spread across three buildings. It is understood that the couple B owns the entire complex through a rental corporation. They reportedly operated the buildings mostly on jeonse leases without monthly rent for over ten years.
The complainants claim that since April of last year, they have not been able to recover a total of 8.4 billion KRW in jeonse deposits ranging from 40 million to 90 million KRW from the couple B. The scale of the damage may increase as more complainants may come forward.
Additionally, the complainants are said to have received foreclosure auction notices for each unit as the properties have been put up for auction due to unpaid jeonse deposits. It is reported that the entire three buildings have entered the sale process due to the corporation's loan default.
