2024 Nowon Snow Sledding Park Operation Successfully Concluded

Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that the operation of the ‘2024 Nowon Snow Sledding Park,’ which ran for the past month, has successfully concluded.

The 'Nowon Snow Sledding Park,' a representative winter project of the district, is an outdoor winter theme park where visitors can enjoy both health and fun in a safe facility despite the cold weather. Riding on the popularity of last year’s sledding park operated at Jungnangcheon Stream, this year the location was moved to the comprehensive sports ground within Seoul National University of Science and Technology.

The relocation had a significant impact. With the cooperation of SeoulTech, accessibility improved thanks to ample parking facilities, and the slopes operated in a comfortable and safe environment with 10 large lanes totaling 90 meters in length and 6 small lanes of 45 meters, which is more than last year.

In addition to the sledding park, the facility featured ▲ a 30m × 20m ice rink ▲ a large snow playground measuring 40m × 40m ▲ a game play zone (4D video, VR experience center, arcade facilities) ▲ and a rich program of traditional experience centers such as Tuho and Yutnori, along with a comfortable parents’ resting area to warm up from the cold and a snack bar, all of which received favorable reviews.

Above all, anticipating large crowds including children on vacation, thorough safety management was prioritized in advance.

Twenty-eight safety personnel qualified in CPR and first aid, along with a separate medical room, worked to prevent accidents and respond on-site, while daily inspections of facility safety, food hygiene, and event cleanliness were meticulously conducted. As a result, according to district officials, the park welcomed many visitors without any major accidents during the one-month operation period.

The ‘2024 Nowon Snow Sledding Park,’ which opened on the first day of last month with a congratulatory performance by figure skaters Yeon Chae-ju and Jo Ye-eun, reopened once again on February 1, the day after closing, for a special day.

Just as last summer’s ‘Nowon Water Park’ held an event inviting families with disabilities on a closed day, this time as well, families with disabilities who usually find it difficult to use outdoor play facilities were invited.

On that day, attended by about 450 people, a guardian of a disabled person A, who tried sledding for the first time, said, “I don’t know how long it has been since I saw such a bright smile without worrying about others’ gazes,” and added, “It was touching to have such an event because it was difficult to muster the courage to enjoy sledding.”

The 2024 Nowon Snow Sledding Park recorded a total of about 53,000 visitors, including approximately 14,000 residents from outside Nowon-gu. Especially on weekends and holidays, the number of visitors reached an average of 3,600 per day without interruption.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “Seeing many families who came despite the cold made me realize the residents’ demand for more entertainment and healing spaces,” and added, “We will continue to strive to make the city a place where culture and fun are always close throughout all four seasons.”
