Safety Inspection of Electrical Facilities in Agricultural Installations and Improvement of Defective Electrical Equipment
Mandatory Installation of Automatic Fire Extinguishers in Subsidized Workplaces and Safety Management Training
Damyang County is making every effort to create a "Safe Damyang" by preventing fires in facility greenhouses.
According to Damyang County on the 2nd, Damyang, which has many facility cultivation greenhouses such as strawberries, tomatoes, and melons, has a high proportion of greenhouse fires, as the area of strawberry cultivation greenhouses accounts for 6.3% of the national total and 56.1% of the province.
It was found that more than 5% of the 120 fires in the region over the past year, totaling 7 cases, occurred in facility greenhouses. In the case of facility greenhouses, if a fire occurs, it becomes impossible to ship the crops being cultivated, causing significant property damage to farmers, so prevention is important.
Accordingly, the county is operating policies to prevent fires in advance by improving faulty electrical facilities in greenhouses. Since 2022, safety inspections of electrical facilities in 1,020 facility horticulture farms' greenhouses have been conducted, and guidance on facility improvements based on inspection results is provided.
In addition, to reduce the burden on farmers when improving faulty electrical facilities, about 100 million won in project funds were supported for replacing distribution boards in greenhouses in cooperation with the NongHyup cooperative project.
Especially from this year, to minimize damage from greenhouse fires through rapid initial extinguishing, the installation of automatic fire extinguishers is mandatory when installing auxiliary business facilities with high power consumption such as heating/cooling devices and nutrient solution machines.
Furthermore, agricultural fire safety management education will be promoted so that farmers can learn fire prevention in daily life and how to respond in case of fire. Through the Damyang County website, county newsletters, and village chief meetings, fire prevention and management guidelines for agricultural facilities will be promoted, and fire prevention manuals will be distributed to spread a culture where farmers prevent fires by themselves.
Lee Byeong-no, the mayor of Damyang County, said, "Facility greenhouses are environmentally vulnerable to fire and cause great damage to farmers when fires occur, so fire prevention cannot be emphasized enough," and added, "We will do our best to prevent greenhouse fires so that farmers can safely produce agricultural products."
