President Yoon Suk-yeol had a phone call with former President Park Geun-hye, who celebrated her 72nd birthday on the 2nd, and offered words of encouragement, saying, "I hope our people read your sincerity through your memoir and book concert, and remember the good policies and achievements during your tenure."
On the same day, President Yoon called former President Park and said, "Happy birthday," inquired about her health, and then spoke as such, according to Kim Soo-kyung, spokesperson for the presidential office, in a written briefing.
Former President Park will hold a book concert at a hotel in Suseong-gu, Daegu, at 2 p.m. on the 5th. At the book concert, she is expected to explain her memoir and deliver a message as a former president who experienced impeachment and other events.
In response, former President Park said, "Thank you for even calling me like this."
President Yoon also said, "These days, I visit markets and many sites, and the image of you meeting with the people often comes to mind," adding, "Many people still want to see you, so I hope you recover your health quickly and meet with the people often."
President Yoon further said, "I will also contact you often and visit whenever possible, so I hope you feel free to visit me anytime," and added, "I wish you better health and many joyful moments in the new year."
Former President Park replied, "You must be busy with state affairs, but I hope you and your spouse have a good rest during this Lunar New Year holiday."
Meanwhile, President Yoon invited former President Park to lunch at the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Seoul, on December 29 last year, and they met three times over three months since October.
