Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, has established and will implement five core strategies in the field of disaster and safety policies for 2024 to realize "A united citizenry, a prosperous Cheongsong for all."

Cheongsong-gun, Leaping to a Safe City Where Residents Feel Secure Cheongsong-gun, which selected the five core strategies in the field of safety policy for 2024.

The key strategies for disaster and safety policies in 2024 include ▲establishing a prevention-centered disaster safety management and security threat response system ▲minimizing damage from natural disasters and promoting rapid recovery activities ▲building a demand-responsive transportation system and eliminating blind spots in public transportation ▲improving livestock environment to enhance the competitiveness of eco-friendly livestock products ▲maintaining livestock disease cleanliness and fostering a culture of responsible pet ownership.

First, centered on the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, the plan is to conduct focused safety inspections on vulnerable facilities and carry out Safety Korea drills to establish a prevention-centered disaster safety management system. Additionally, by operating a citizen safety insurance, up to 20 million KRW will be provided for eligible coverage items to alleviate the economic burden on local residents caused by unforeseen accidents.

Furthermore, amid the recent uncertain and rapidly changing global security environment, thorough integrated defense systems against North Korea’s continuous provocations will be established through solid civil defense personnel education and training and the enhancement of the Eulji Exercise.

Next, recognizing that extreme weather events such as heavy rain, heavy snow, cold waves, and heat waves, once considered abnormal climate phenomena, have now become commonplace, full preparedness for natural disaster response will be ensured.

As part of disaster prevention projects, 5.54 billion KRW will be invested in maintenance projects for three steep slope collapse risk areas: Eocheon (Pacheon-myeon), Hapgang (Jinbo-myeon), and Eoreumgol (Juwangsan-myeon). To prepare for damage caused by heavy rainfall, a smart measurement management system will be established with a budget of 140 million KRW in two areas, Beopsucheon (Juwangsan-myeon) and Gamgokcheon (Pacheon-myeon), to protect the lives and property of residents.

Next, a total of 190 million KRW will be invested in 32 locations through projects to supply traffic safety facilities and create Silver Safety Roads in front of villages to ensure the safety of pedestrians and drivers, and convenience for public transportation users will be enhanced through the installation and maintenance of new bus stops.

Additionally, a village parking lot will be constructed in Wolmak 2-ri, Cheongsong-eup, to improve parking convenience and ensure the safety of child pedestrians.

In particular, continuous operation of free buses and the Cheonwon Taxi will provide transportation services tailored to the needs of local residents, and plans to link with the tourism industry will be prepared to promote regional economic revitalization.

Moreover, to enhance the competitiveness of livestock farming and improve the livestock environment, 490 million KRW will be supported for forage seed and silage manufacturing costs and the establishment of specialized complexes as part of forage production base expansion projects, and 640 million KRW will be provided for clean livestock environment projects such as purchasing sawdust and composting agents and supporting odor reduction devices.

Furthermore, to increase productivity and improve the rearing environment of livestock farms, support will be given for livestock farm environment improvement equipment, automatic feeding devices for Hanwoo cattle, CCTV for barn management, ventilation facilities, and nitrogen tanks for semen storage to improve the quality of Hanwoo cattle, laying the foundation for income increase and management stabilization for about 160 livestock farms.

Finally, to prevent livestock diseases and supply safe livestock products, 830 million KRW will be invested in operating one base disinfection facility, purchasing quarantine equipment and preventive medicines, and operating two joint pest control teams. To foster a healthy animal rearing culture through animal welfare and protection of abandoned animals, 150 million KRW will be provided for animal registration fees (100 animals), neutering surgeries for yard dogs (100 animals), and neutering surgeries for stray cats (100 animals).

Governor Yoon Kyung-hee stated, “We will mobilize all human and material resources to thoroughly respond to disasters that change moment by moment to create a safe Cheongsong where citizens can feel secure,” and added, “We will devote all our efforts throughout 2024 to eliminate blind spots in public transportation, enhance the competitiveness of livestock farms, and prevent livestock infectious diseases.”
