On the 2nd, nearly 100 comments were posted on Kim's recent Instagram post. Most expressed condolences, such as "Thank you and sorry to the firefighter who ran in for someone who might have been trapped," and "I hope you are free from pain and at peace in heaven." Many comments appeared to be from acquaintances, saying things like "I am so upset and can't believe it," and "We talked about having a drink a few days ago; I will make up for the drinks we missed."

Kim’s Instagram photos showed him as an ordinary young man in his twenties, which added to the sorrow. Most posts featured joyful moments from trips to Seoul and Jeju Island, as well as food photos from popular restaurants. There were also posts reflecting his dedication as a firefighter. One photo taken at the fire station on Christmas Day five years ago bore the caption, "Giving up my Christmas for someone else's Christmas."

Firefighters Kim and Park were deployed to a fire at a meat processing factory in the Singi 2nd General Industrial Complex in Mungyeong City, Gyeongbuk, on the 31st. They became trapped and were found dead in the early hours of the 1st. They were unable to escape the rapidly spreading flames. The Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters plans to promote both heroes by one rank, inter them at the National Cemetery, and posthumously award them the Order of Okjo Geunjeong. A funeral service will be held on the 3rd with the Gyeongsangbuk-do provincial funeral, and memorial altars will be set up at four locations including the Gyeongbuk Provincial Government Dongnak Hall and the fire stations in Mungyeong, Gumi, and Sangju until the 5th. The funeral hall is located at Mungyeong Funeral Home.
