Domestic Sales Up 15% Year-on-Year
SUV Popularity Continues... Dominates Top Sales Rankings
Kia recorded total sales of over 240,000 units worldwide in January this year. The more than 10% increase in domestic market sales played a key role. The popularity of sport utility vehicles (SUVs) such as the Sportage, Seltos, and Sorento continued.
On the 1st, Kia announced that it sold 244,940 units globally on a wholesale basis last month, marking a 4.2% increase compared to the same period last year.
By region, domestic sales reached 44,608 units, up 15.3% from January last year. The best-selling vehicle in the domestic market was the Sorento, with 9,284 units sold. Passenger cars included the Ray with 4,130 units, K5 with 3,336 units, and K8 with 2,917 units.
Recreational vehicles (RVs) totaled 28,221 units sold, including the Sorento, Carnival with 7,049 units, Sportage with 5,934 units, and Seltos with 3,944 units. Among commercial vehicles, out of a total of 3,196 units sold, the Bongo III accounted for 3,074 units.
Overseas sales recorded 200,073 units, a 2.0% increase compared to the same month last year. By model, the Sportage led with 39,971 units sold, followed by the Seltos with 23,573 units, and the K3 (Forte) with 17,643 units.
Across both domestic and international markets, the top-selling vehicles were all SUVs. The Sportage was the best-seller with 45,905 units, followed by the Seltos with 27,517 units, and the Sorento with 21,346 units.
Meanwhile, special vehicles sold a total of 259 units, with 75 units sold domestically and 184 units overseas.
A Kia official stated, "Last month, the EV9 won the North American Car of the Year award, and four models including the Telluride received the Best Customer Value awards in the U.S., further recognizing Kia’s product competitiveness. We will continue steady sales this year, focusing on advanced markets."
