Handonghun "Proposes Lawmakers' Salaries Be Set at National Median Income Level"

Support Amount for Cheonwon Breakfast Increased from 1,000 Won to 2,000 Won
Special TF Formed for Seoul-Gyeonggi Living Area Reorganization … Bae Junyoung Appointed as Chairperson

Han Dong-hoon, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, stated on the 1st, "I have thought about whether it would be appropriate for members of the National Assembly to receive salaries corresponding to the median income of the people."

Chairman Han said this during the Emergency Response Committee meeting held at the Yeouido party headquarters that morning, adding, "Being a member of the National Assembly is not just a simple job but a commitment to serve and dedicate oneself to the people."

He mentioned, "Members of the National Assembly represent the people and perform important duties, so it is a highly honorable position," and "That is why the compensation they receive for their work is called 'sebi' (salary) rather than wages."

He continued, "Because it is a position representing the people, I believe the amount also has symbolic significance," but added, "However, unlike the political reforms we have proposed so far, this is still my personal opinion and not an issue on which the party has gathered consensus."

The People Power Party also decided to increase the support amount for university students' 'Cheonwon Achimbap' (1000 Won Breakfast) from 1,000 won to 2,000 won.

Chairman Han explained, "Currently, the government supports 1,000 won, and the remaining budget is provided by the schools," adding, "As a result, there are limitations on meal quantities, and if students are even slightly late, they cannot use the service, leading to situations like 'open run'."

He said, "Of course, we would like to provide full support of 5,000 to 6,000 won, but considering the priority of tax expenditures, what we can do immediately is to increase the support amount from 1,000 won to 2,000 won."

Meanwhile, on the same day, the People Power Party announced the formation of a special task force (TF) for the reorganization of the Seoul and Gyeonggi living areas. Bae Jun-young, Vice Chairman of Strategy and Planning of the People Power Party, was appointed as the chairman.

Vice Chairman Bae stated, "We will make the lives of Gyeonggi residents more convenient and prosperous," and added, "We have already submitted bills for Gimpo, Guri, and Hanam cities, and we will revive the momentum to do our best to create the life that Gyeonggi residents desire."

After the meeting, Chairman Han plans to travel to Mungyeong to pay respects to Firefighter Kim (27) and Firefighter Park (35), who died in the line of duty in Mungyeong early in the morning.
