Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation's integrated brand for public knowledge industry centers in the province, 'GihoeBiz GH Biz&' (GH Biz&)
Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH) has created an integrated brand for the Gyeonggi-do type public knowledge industry centers. It also plans to establish a standard operation plan for the public knowledge industry centers to actively support the startups and growth of companies.
GH announced on the 1st that it has designated “Opportunity Biz GH Biz&” (GH Biz&) as the integrated brand for a total of nine public knowledge industry centers, including three currently being built and operated in Seongnam Pangyo and six planned in Goyang, and will implement a standard operation plan.
The integrated brand is designed with the concepts of jewels, light, value, and the Gyeonggi-do slogan (Gyeonggi, the center of change and opportunity), embodying the 8th-term provincial government’s goals of “GH knowledge industry centers shining together with companies” and “creating opportunity spaces for fostering and supporting knowledge industries.”
Currently, there are a total of 619 centers either operating or planned in the province. Among these, private centers primarily aim to generate profits through sales and leasing, while public centers, despite offering lower sales and lease rates compared to private knowledge industry centers, lack special support functions for companies.
Accordingly, GH will provide four major support measures to tenant companies through the new standard model.
First, it plans to operate an investment fund (VC, AC) system targeting promising (innovative) growth companies and is considering creating a technology cooperation fund from part of the profits to reinvest in tenant companies.
Additionally, GH will establish an integrated platform to enable mutual use of shared spaces (offices, research facilities, meeting rooms, seminar rooms, promotion rooms, etc.) across GH public knowledge industry centers without regional boundaries, and develop an operational system to enhance cooperation among industry, academia, research, and government.
Furthermore, even companies without regional offices or branches will be able to use workspaces and meeting rooms at GH public knowledge industry centers throughout Gyeonggi-do, maximizing synergy effects among companies.
In particular, through collaboration with Gyeonggi-do type Opportunity Campus Town, Opportunity Power Plant, and Gyeonggi-do public institutions for startup cultivation, GH plans to lease spaces at affordable rates to early-stage startups and innovative (promising growth) companies.
Kim Se-yong, president of GH, emphasized, “While development public corporations including GH, SH, and LH have focused their work areas on housing supply policies to stabilize citizens’ housing, Gyeonggi-do and GH will take a step further and devote ourselves to fostering policies for the growth and development of Gyeonggi-do companies, which are the core pillars of national competitiveness.”
