Geumcheon-gu Steps Up as Safety Guardian for Workers at Dawn Job Shelter Construction Site

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) operates a dawn job shelter to provide a resting place for daily construction site workers.

The shelter is open year-round on weekdays from 4 a.m. to 7 a.m. at the Geumcheon-gu Doksan Gogae Dawn Labor Market (sidewalk in front of 475 Siheung-daero). It is located near the dawn labor market where construction workers gather in small groups to find jobs. For the convenience of workers, a mobile tent is installed, offering amenities such as ▲ free Wi-Fi ▲ phone chargers ▲ chairs ▲ heaters ▲ and warm tea.

According to the 2023 shelter satisfaction survey, 99% of respondents answered that they were ‘very satisfied’ or ‘satisfied.’ The average daily number of users over the past three years is 86, with a cumulative total of approximately 63,000 users.

Construction workers face harsh winter cold while commuting early in the morning and are in an environment where it is difficult to receive prompt treatment in case of emergencies. Accordingly, on January 29, shelter staff participated in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training conducted by the Geumcheon-gu Public Health Center, completing courses including ▲ CPR theory ▲ practice using mannequins ▲ and use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and received certificates.

One shelter staff member who completed the training said, “Through this training, I hope to provide quick assistance to someone in case of an emergency during the early morning hours,” and added, “I feel proud to be a reliable supporter for shelter users who leave for construction sites every dawn.”

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “I appreciate the thoughtful hearts of the shelter staff who support construction workers,” and added, “I hope the dawn job shelter becomes a warm space where daily workers can rest comfortably.”
