The Russian State Duma has passed a bill to confiscate the property of individuals who spread fake news about its military forces.

According to local media on the 31st, Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of the State Duma, announced on Telegram that "the State Duma approved the bill in the third reading."

The bill targets those who spread fake news that harms national security, tarnish the honor of the Russian military, call for sanctions against Russia, or incite extremist activities.

Individuals convicted for these reasons may have their property confiscated by the state, and any medals awarded by the state can also be revoked.

The bill passed the first reading in the State Duma on the 24th and subsequently passed the second and third readings on the same day. It now awaits approval from the Federation Council and President Vladimir Putin.

Speaker Volodin emphasized, "We are now able to punish those who engage in activities against the state," adding, "Once the bill is finally passed, their honors will be revoked, and their property, money, and valuables can be confiscated."
