[One Day Ten Thousand Steps, One Day Thousand Characters] 2000 Years of History in Seoul... Walk and Learn

Seoul City has prepared an event where participants can walk through and experience Seoul's 2,000-year history.

Seoul City conducted the ‘Seoul Winter Festa 2023 Walk Together’ campaign using the walking application ‘WalkOn’. This campaign is a festival that brings together winter events that were previously held separately across Seoul with individual themes and schedules.

First, Seoul City held a walking challenge from December 23 last year to January 5. The walking challenge consisted of walking and verifying seven courses: ▲Gwanghwamun Square ▲Open Songhyeon Green Plaza ▲Cheonggyecheon ▲DDP ▲Bosingak ▲Sejong-daero ▲Seoul Plaza.

Participants who completed each course could experience Seoul’s past and present while taking part in Seoul’s winter events. For example, participants who took the Gwanghwamun Square course could join the ‘Seoul Lantern Festival’ held until the 21st and experience the past and present of places like Gwanghwamun and Cheonggye Plaza.

At the Seoul Plaza course, participants can experience the Seoul Plaza skating rink, which operates until February 11. Here, a walking challenge linked with Seoul’s healthcare program ‘Sonmok Doctor 9988’ can be conducted simultaneously. ‘Sonmok Doctor 9988’ means helping all Seoul citizens live healthily (palpal) until 99 years old through walking and other activities.

Following the walking challenge, Seoul City will also run the Seoul Winter Festa promotion event until December 28. Participants can subscribe to the ‘2,000-Year History City Seoul’ Instagram or YouTube, tag someone they want to walk with, and leave a comment with the Seoul Winter Festa course. Seoul City will draw winners from the participants and provide prizes.

Additionally, Seoul City is sharing stories of Seoul’s history in a more friendly way by publishing the ‘Walk Together!’ series content through the ‘2,000-Year History City Seoul’ social media channels.
