Yang Gilsu Re-elected as President of the Appraisers Association... First Consecutive Term in 22 Years

Elected with 58.06% of the Vote in the Runoff Election

Yang Gilsu, president of the Korea Association of Property Appraisers, was re-elected on the 31st. The association announced that President Yang won the 18th presidential election held that day.

In the final runoff vote, President Yang received 2,297 votes (58.06%) out of a total of 3,956 valid votes. This marks the first time in 22 years since 2002 that a president of the Property Appraisers Association has been re-elected.

Born in 1965, President Yang graduated from Daegu Deokwon High School and Korea University with a degree in Agricultural Economics. He passed the property appraiser qualification exam in 1999 and served as CEO of Hana Property Appraisal Corporation from 2017 to 2021. Since March 2021, he has been serving as president of the Property Appraisers Association and chairman of the Korea Real Estate Research Institute. His second term will run from March this year to February 2027.

President Yang stated, “Over the past three years, I have fulfilled each pledge together with our members, and moving forward, I will realize the continuous growth of the property appraisal industry through proven execution capabilities and enhance the role of property appraisers.”

He presented key pledges including ▲sustainable growth of the property appraisal industry based on system improvements, ▲expansion of the appraisal market such as collateral appraisal through cooperation with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and related organizations, and ▲future-oriented innovation in the property appraisal industry.

A total of seven candidates ran in this election, including Yang Gilsu, Park Bongwook, Ye Byungmok, Hwang Seonggyu, Yoo Yunsang, Song Gyeju, and Jo Eunkyung. The Property Appraisers Association is a statutory organization under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, with about 5,000 member corporations and offices nationwide. It is responsible for protecting members’ rights and welfare, enhancing professionalism, developing appraisal work, and improving appraisal systems.

The election was conducted through first and second rounds of direct voting and online electronic voting. Since no candidate received a majority in the first round, a second round was held between the top two candidates. The runoff voter turnout was 84.86%.
