Free Parking at Garak Market During Lunar New Year Holiday...Customer-Only Parking Lot Operation

The Seoul Agro-Fisheries & Food Corporation (President Moon Young-pyo) has prepared and implemented the "2024 Lunar New Year Peak Season Parking and Traffic Special Measures" to enhance the convenience of customers using Garak Market during the Lunar New Year holiday.

The special measures period lasts for 16 days from January 24 to February 8. The previous manual distribution of entry sequence tickets at external waiting areas has been improved by pilot operating an entry scheduling system that automatically assigns entry numbers via a smart app for apple and pear products.

Shipping vehicles that install the app and register shipping information before arriving at Garak Market will automatically receive an entry number through the app when approaching within a 3km radius of the market. Vehicles with assigned numbers will enter and unload in order according to the instructions of the wholesale corporation.

As a result, it is expected that traffic congestion inside and outside the market during the peak season will be significantly alleviated.

Additionally, to prevent parking space shortages and disruptions to logistics flow caused by various product stacking activities within the market during the peak season, the east side parking lot of Garak Market and the outer roads of Garak Market will be operated as temporary waiting areas for peak season shipping vehicles (such as apples and pears) during this Lunar New Year.

Along with this, to facilitate smooth vehicle communication within the market, the corporation (including subsidiaries) and distribution organizations will jointly conduct special traffic duty, deploying up to about 130 personnel per day.

In particular, based on the analysis of vehicle entry and exit data by main market gates and time slots from last year’s Lunar New Year, focused management will be carried out in areas expected to experience traffic congestion.

Furthermore, to ensure that general consumers can use Garak Market without inconvenience, from February 1 to February 8 (8 days), the South Gate temporary parking lot, the second parking building, and the underground parking lot of Garak Mall will be operated as parking lots exclusively for purchasing customers. To reduce the parking fee burden for customers visiting Garak Market during the Lunar New Year holiday, the parking lots will be open free of charge 24 hours a day from 6:30 AM on February 9 to 6:30 AM on February 13, the market’s closed period.

Son Bong-hee, Head of the Environmental Development Division, stated, “Ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, all related parties including the corporation and distributors will do their best to ensure that customers can use Garak Market conveniently and without burden.”
