Seongbuk-gu 10 Dong Resident Autonomy Committees Appoint 510 New Committee Members... Expecting Strong Foundation for Community Autonomy and Activation of Resident Committees Based on Seongbuk-style Resident Autonomy Project Achievements
Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) held a commissioning ceremony for the new start of the residents' autonomy committees of 10 neighborhoods in Seongbuk-gu from the 8th to the 26th.
The residents' autonomy committee is a representative autonomous organization where residents take direct responsibility and represent their community. The committee members identify local issues themselves, discover and discuss necessary projects to solve them, and actively work to realize residents' autonomy and revitalize the village community.
The newly launched residents' autonomy committees include a total of 10 neighborhoods: Seongbuk-dong, Samseon-dong, Dongseon-dong, Bomun-dong, Jeongneung 2-dong, Gireum 1-dong, Jongam-dong, Wolgok 2-dong, Jangwi 1-dong, and Seokgwan-dong.
For the new start of Seongbuk-gu residents' autonomy committees, from August last year, a public recruitment of residents' autonomy committee members, operation of residents' autonomy school, and public lottery were conducted targeting residents of the 10 neighborhoods. In December, the committee members were finally selected, and at this commissioning ceremony, appointment letters were awarded to a total of 510 residents' autonomy committee members from the 10 neighborhoods. The selected committee members will serve a two-year term starting January 1, 2024, during which they will establish residents' autonomy plans for harmony and development of the village, discover village agendas, and carry out various residents' autonomy activities within the region.
Seongbuk-gu residents' autonomy committees began in 2018 with Dongseon-dong and Jongam-dong, and in 2021, residents' autonomy committees were fully introduced in all 20 neighborhoods of Seongbuk-gu. Over the past seven years, through various resident-led project implementations and activities, they have firmly established a culture of daily autonomy and led the realization of happy daily autonomy as a model case of local autonomy.
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “Congratulations on the new start of the residents' autonomy committees of the 10 neighborhoods. I hope that all residents will actively work to vitalize residents' autonomy and create a happy local community to blossom the autonomous culture of Seongbuk where everyone is happy.”
