Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, announced that menstrual products will be provided to foreign adolescents starting from March.
On the 29th, Governor Kim posted on his social media (SNS), "Gyeonggi Province will now support menstrual products for foreign female adolescents as well," and urged, "If there are foreign female adolescents around you, please make sure to inform them."
He continued, "Applications will be accepted at administrative welfare centers during March," emphasizing, "We will guarantee the right of all female adolescents in the province to menstruate safely and healthily. Everyone living in Gyeonggi Province is a Gyeonggi resident."
Earlier, Gyeonggi Province announced that the target of the ‘Universal Support Project for Menstrual Products for Female Adolescents’ will be expanded this year to include foreign adolescents residing in the province.
The universal support for menstrual products for female adolescents is a project that provides 13,000 KRW per month per person for purchasing menstrual products to guarantee the health rights of female adolescents aged 11 to 18.
Previously, support was only provided to female adolescents registered as residents in the province, but following the revision of the ‘Ordinance on Support for Menstrual Products for Female Adolescents in Gyeonggi Province’ in October last year, the target has been expanded this year to include foreign adolescents such as registered foreigners and overseas Koreans with domestic residence reports.
Accordingly, 223,846 female adolescents born between 2006 and 2013 in 21 cities and counties including Ansan, Pyeongtaek, and Siheung will receive monthly support. Gyeonggi Province estimates that among them, 4,500 are foreign adolescents.
The support funds will be provided as local currency based on the female adolescent’s resident registration address and can be used until December 31 of this year. The issued local currency can only be used to purchase menstrual products. Available convenience stores include CU, GS25, 7-Eleven, and Emart24.
Applications for the support funds will be accepted in two periods: the first half and the second half of the year. Applications for the first half of this year will be accepted after March through Gyeonggi Minwon 24 (https://gg24.gg.go.kr/) and local administrative welfare centers in eup, myeon, and dong.
