Kwon Eun-hee "Leaving People Power Party... Considering Running in Gwangju Gwangsan-eul"

On the 29th, Kwon Eun-hee, a member of the People Power Party, announced, "I am leaving the People Power Party and resigning from my position as a lawmaker."

On the same day, Kwon held a press conference at the National Assembly and said, "As a politician of the third party, I dreamed of politics where the daily lives and future of the people would overcome ideology and vested interests within a multiparty political structure. However, even the small achievements made by the third zone failed to take root, and the bitter frustration of returning to the reality of two-party politics was repeated."

He mentioned that he is "considering Gwangsan-eul in Gwangju" for the general election in April this year. Gwangsan-eul is the constituency where Kwon served as a member of the 19th and 20th National Assembly.

Kwon also expressed his intention to join the 'third zone.' He said, "I am communicating with the Reform New Party and the tentatively named Reform Future Party about whether they have a strong will to establish roots in the third zone and bring about political change even after the general election."

Previously, Kwon opposed the merger between the People Power Party and the People Party in 2022 and requested expulsion but was rejected and continued to serve as a member of the People Power Party.

Since then, he has voiced opinions different from the party mainstream and experienced conflicts within the party. With Kwon losing his proportional representation seat, Kim Geun-tae, a former member of the People Party and the standing deputy spokesperson of the People Power Party, will succeed his position as a lawmaker.
