Meeting with the Korea University Sports Council to Discuss Current Issues
Yoo In-chon, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will meet with the executives of the Korea University Sports Council at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul Branch on the 29th to discuss current issues in university sports. The Korea University Sports Council is a consultative body established in 2010 to advance and revitalize university sports. It is composed of 135 university presidents who operate athletic teams. The council promotes various projects to activate university sports, including the establishment and supervision of related regulations such as university sports operation rules, academic management of student athletes, evaluation and support of university athletic teams, and operation of university leagues.
Minister Yoo will listen to the difficulties faced on the ground and seek ways to support the development of university athletic teams and the revitalization of university leagues. He stated, "University sports mark the concluding phase of school sports that have continued since elementary school and are a crucial period leading to lifelong sports participation. For a healthy and vibrant life for the younger generation, the university sports system should be expanded not only for university athletic teams but also to 'sports for all university students.'" He added, "We will communicate with the field to further develop university sports and implement effective policies."
