Gumi-si Introduces Smart Safety Vests, First in Gyeongbuk

Prevention of Safety Accidents for High-Altitude Workers Such as Falls and Slips

On the 25th, Gumi City in Gyeongbuk distributed smart safety vests and conducted training at the City Hall Disaster Safety Situation Room, with 16 employees and public workers in attendance.

The smart safety vest is a wearable safety vest equipped with an airbag that activates sensors in the event of a fall accident, instantly inflating the airbag to protect the worker’s head, neck, and upper body. It was introduced for the first time in Gyeongbuk Province to prevent safety accidents among employees.

The city distributed the smart safety vests to employees who face risks of falls and slips during high-altitude tasks such as road lighting maintenance, street tree pruning, and facility installation and maintenance. The manufacturer demonstrated how to wear and operate the vest.

Employees who wore the smart safety vest for the first time said, “Working at heights always caused anxiety and fear of falling, but after trying the smart safety vest, I feel I can work with more confidence,” welcoming the introduction of the smart safety vest.

Mayor Kim Jang-ho stated, “With the enforcement of the Serious Accident Punishment Act, the obligation to ensure safety and health in the public sector has been strengthened, making accident prevention more important than ever. We hope that with the introduction of the smart safety vest, employees can perform their duties in a safer working environment.”
