GTX-C Groundbreaking Ceremony Held... Accelerating Opening in 2028

On June 25, Oh Eun-seok, the mayor of Dobong-gu, attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Metropolitan Area Express Train (GTX) Line C held at the multipurpose gymnasium of Uijeongbu City Hall.

The event began with a pre-ceremony performance, followed by a commemorative speech by the President, and the groundbreaking ceremony. About 500 people attended, including President Yoon Seok-yeol, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, local government heads, and residents of the area.

GTX Line C is a route connecting 86.46 km from Deokjeong Station in Yangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, passing through Cheongnyangni Station, Chang-dong Station, and Samseong Station in Seoul, to Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do.

Construction began with the goal of completion in 2028, and upon opening, the travel time from Chang-dong Station to Samseong Station will be drastically reduced from 1 hour to 13 minutes.

Additionally, Dobong-gu plans to extend the Suseo-origin SRT to Chang-dong Station, which is expected to greatly improve the geographical conditions of Dobong-gu, located in the northern part of Seoul.

Oh Eun-seok, mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “I am pleased to share this moment of GTX-C groundbreaking with the residents,” adding, “The government plans to extend GTX-C from Dongducheon to Asan, so residents will be able to enjoy more benefits from GTX-C in the future.”

Meanwhile, GTX-C’s underground section in Dobong-gu was confirmed in May last year, and in August, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport signed an implementation agreement with Hyundai Construction, scheduling groundbreaking by the end of that year. Accordingly, the Ministry approved the implementation plan in December last year, proceeding with administrative groundbreaking, and officially announced the start of construction through the groundbreaking ceremony on January 25 this year.
