Prime Minister Han Deok-su Issues Urgent Directive to Police on Preventing Recurrence of Political Terrorism
The Presidential Office stated on the 25th regarding the assault incident involving People Power Party lawmaker Bae Hyun-jin, "This incident should never have happened, and a thorough investigation must be conducted."
That night, the Presidential Office released a statement adding, "We wish for the speedy recovery of lawmaker Bae Hyun-jin."
Prime Minister Han Duck-soo also said, "Terrorism against politicians ahead of the general election is a serious crime that shakes the foundation of democracy and can never be tolerated," and issued an urgent directive to the police.
Prime Minister Han issued an 'Urgent Directive on the Recurrence of Political Terrorism,' stating, "Following the recent assault on Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, today lawmaker Bae Hyun-jin was again attacked by an assailant," and added, "Violence cannot be justified for any reason."
He ordered the National Police Agency, "Investigative authorities must conduct a thorough investigation of this incident leaving no room for doubt," and "Ahead of the general election, please devote all efforts to securing the safety of key figures such as members of the National Assembly and preventing similar crimes from occurring again."
