Chairman Han visited Soonchunhyang University Hospital, where Assemblywoman Bae was transferred and is receiving treatment, and told reporters, "The truth must be clearly revealed and the perpetrator must be severely punished," adding, "The People Power Party will do its utmost to ensure that the facts of this matter are swiftly and clearly uncovered."
He continued, "We will prevent the public from worrying and feeling anxious due to vague speculation or anger," and added, "I hope everyone wishes for Assemblywoman Bae's speedy recovery."
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, wrote on Facebook in the afternoon, "No political terrorism should be tolerated. We must respond thoroughly and firmly."
Lee wrote, "I am deeply hurt by this unbelievable incident," and "I pray for Assemblywoman Bae's swift recovery. I also offer my heartfelt condolences to her worried family."
Assemblywoman Bae was struck on the back of her head by an unidentified man in front of a building in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, at around 5:18 p.m. that day. She was bleeding and was transported to Soonchunhyang Hospital.
According to the police, the man confirmed Assemblywoman Bae's identity before hitting the back of her head with a stone. The police arrested him on the spot on charges of special assault. The man reportedly claimed to the police that he is 15 years old.
