Three Candidates Registered for the 12th President Election at Gyeongsang National University

4 Policy Debate Sessions and 1 Joint Speech Scheduled
Online Voting on February 7 from 10 AM to 1 PM

The Gyeongsang National University Presidential Appointment Recommendation Committee and the Jinju City Election Commission announced on the 25th that a total of three candidates have registered for the "Gyeongsang National University 12th President Appointment Candidate Election."


On the 24th at 6:30 PM, the Jinju City Election Commission, with the participation of the Gyeongsang National University Presidential Appointment Recommendation Committee, held a candidate meeting in the Jinju City Election Commission conference room and drew lots to determine the order (number) on the ballot paper.

▲ Candidate No. 1 Shin Yong-min (60), Professor of German Language and Literature, College of Humanities, previously served as Dean of Academic Affairs and Director of Academic Affairs at Gyeongsang National University, President of the Korean German Language and Literature Association, and exchange professor at the University of Vienna, Austria.


▲ Candidate No. 2 Kim Sang-min (52), Professor of Regional Systems Engineering, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, previously served as Director of Planning at Gyeongsang National University, Head of the Ulsan-Gyeongnam Regional Innovation Platform Operations Headquarters, and Deputy Director of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation.


▲ Candidate No. 3 Kwon Jin-hoe (58), Professor of Aerospace and Software Engineering, College of Engineering, previously served as Director of Planning at Gyeongsang National University and President of the Korean Composite Materials Society, and currently serves as Co-Chairman of the Aerospace Policy Forum.


The Gyeongsang National University Presidential Appointment Recommendation Committee will hold four policy debates to verify the candidates' pledges and qualifications. The public debates will be broadcast live on YouTube via the "Gyeongsang National University" channel. The debate venues will allow free coverage by both internal and external media.


The election for the 12th President Appointment Candidate of Gyeongsang National University will be held on February 7. Voting and counting will be conducted using an online voting system (web voting via smartphone or PC) and online counting. Voting hours are from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and if a runoff vote is necessary, it will be held from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Counting will take place immediately after voting ends at the Multipurpose Hall on the 3rd floor of the GNU Convention Center at the Gajwa Campus.


Eligible voters for this election include faculty members (assistant professor or higher), staff (permanent contract or higher, including teaching assistants), endowed professors, and students (including general graduate students). Faculty, staff, and endowed professors currently on leave or suspension, as well as students on leave or suspension as of the election announcement date, are excluded. The calculation and reflection ratio of the voting results will follow a method agreed upon by faculty, staff, and students.


The campaign period is from the 25th until February 6. According to the "Regulations on the Selection of Presidential Appointment Candidates at Gyeongsang National University" (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations), candidates may campaign through ▲ election notices (the Presidential Appointment Recommendation Committee posts election notice files on the university website and sends the URL to voters via KakaoTalk notification), ▲ joint speeches or public debates, ▲ phone calls and text messages (excluding voice, video, or multimedia messages), and ▲ appeals for support using information and communication networks (posting text or videos on bulletin boards or chat rooms on the university-operated internet homepage, or sending emails to voters).


According to the Regulations, if there are three or more presidential candidates and no candidate receives a majority of votes in the first round, a second round of voting will be held between the top two candidates. In the second round, the candidate with the most votes will be designated as the first-choice presidential appointment candidate, and the runner-up as the second-choice candidate.


Meanwhile, at the candidate meeting, the Gyeongsang National University Presidential Appointment Recommendation Committee and the Jinju City Election Commission requested cooperation to ensure a fair election by ▲ adhering to legally prescribed campaign methods, ▲ eliminating nepotism and regionalism, ▲ refraining from slander and black propaganda, and ▲ eradicating vote-buying through money or gifts.
