The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters is implementing fire prevention measures in preparation for the Lunar New Year holiday until the 8th of next month, focusing on multi-use facilities such as train stations and terminals where crowds gather, as well as traditional markets.
The Fire and Disaster Headquarters will first conduct fire safety inspections targeting multi-use facilities, checking for issues such as the closure or blockage of fire safety equipment and emergency exits, and obstacles in evacuation routes, while promoting joint inspections with related agencies.
Additionally, fire safety inspections will be carried out in traditional markets, focusing on factors such as the use of outdated electrical wiring, to eliminate fire vulnerabilities in advance and support merchants in strengthening autonomous safety management.
Along with a comprehensive on-site inspection of evacuation and fire prevention facilities such as apartment emergency exits, safety education will be provided to stakeholders across all 7,172 apartment complexes in the province.
Furthermore, fire safety consulting will be conducted at vulnerable facilities within the province, including nursing homes, long-term care hospitals, and residential vinyl greenhouses, while patrols to prevent fire risk factors will be intensified at parcel collection facilities such as logistics warehouses and hub terminals.
In addition, a large-scale campaign will be launched to promote focused safety management messages regarding fire handling to foreigners and residents of residential vinyl greenhouses.
Jo Seon-ho, head of the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, stated, "In preparation for the Lunar New Year, all 35 fire stations in the province will enter special fire alert duty and establish a 24-hour situation management system to operate a seamless on-site response system. We will do our best to ensure that any deficiencies found in fire safety inspections are corrected before the holiday so that residents can have a safe and comfortable holiday."
Meanwhile, over the past five years, 526 fires occurred in the Gyeonggi area during the Lunar New Year holiday period, resulting in 36 casualties including 10 deaths and 26 injuries, and property damage amounting to 6.7 billion KRW.
