The Intercontinental Mauritius Resort, Balaclava, located on the island nation of the Republic of Mauritius in East Africa, southwest Indian Ocean, hosted the International Conference on Diabetes, Obesity and Associated Diseases from January 22 to 24, 2024. CEO Samgu Lee of 239Bio Co., Ltd. attended the conference as an international invited speaker, with all expenses covered by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of the Republic of Mauritius.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of the Republic of Mauritius, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF President Akhtar Hussain), the World Diabetes Prevention Foundation (WCPD President Jaakko Tuomilehto), and the Mauritius Diabetes Foundation. Among the participants were top scholars worldwide, including Professor Jaakko Tuomilehto of the University of Helsinki Medical School in Finland, who is a Nobel Prize in Medicine nominee, and Professor Akhtar Hussain, President of the IDF, the largest international diabetes federation with members from 162 countries. Among them, CEO Samgu Lee of 239Bio Co., Ltd. was the only East Asian participant.
Notably, during this international event, CEO Samgu Lee of 239Bio held talks with President Prithvirajsing Roopun of Mauritius and Minister of Health and Welfare Dr. the Hon Kailesh Kumar Singh JAGUTPAL. The purpose of this meeting was to express gratitude for the invitation extended to Dr. Lee, based on recommendations from global scholars recognizing his dedication and research results in diabetes treatment. It was also aimed at reflecting policies for the government-level collaboration on diabetes treatment D&D clinical trials to reduce diabetes patients in the Republic of Mauritius.
CEO Samgu Lee of 239Bio concluded by stating that through these discussions, 239Bio will proceed with diabetes treatment clinical research in the Republic of Mauritius alongside world-renowned scholars and asked for anticipation of future developments.
