An Ecological Rest Area Created in Daegu Gosan-gol Visited by 10 Million Annually... Parking Building Also Completed

The ‘Apsan Gosan-gol Ecological Rest Area Creation’ project to build a deck-type theme park in Gosan-gol, Apsan, Nam-gu, Daegu, which is visited by more than 10 million Daegu citizens annually, is scheduled to begin construction in May.

The project section covers 700 meters from Gangdang-gol to Gosan-gol Sudeoksa Temple, a barefoot walking attraction along the Apsan footpath. The deck-type facility will cause no damage to the natural scenery, with an ecological rest area on the upper deck and various plants planted underneath the deck considering their growing environment to provide visual enjoyment for citizens.

In addition, for the safety of general pedestrians, the barefoot walking trail and the road will be separated, and various themed spaces such as a humanities plaza, pine tree rest area, and observatory will be created.

This project began with a basic plan service in 2022 and went through many trials and errors through several expert advisory meetings. In December 2023, the Daegu City Urban Park Committee gave final approval for the ‘Apsan Park Creation Plan Change’ for the ‘Apsan Gosan-gol Ecological Rest Area Creation,’ giving the project further momentum.

The ecological rest area creation project plans to start construction promptly after completing some remaining administrative procedures such as the announcement of the Apsan Park Creation Plan change and cultural heritage shape changes, and aims to be completed by the end of April next year.

Joaegoo Jo, Mayor of Nam-gu, Daegu, said, “This will be a starting point for preserving the natural environment of Apsan, a representative rest space for Daegu citizens, and creating a healthy rest area for citizens. We will do our best until completion to transform it into a premium healing space enjoyed by local residents through speedy project promotion.”

Nam-gu, Daegu, held a completion ceremony for the ‘Gosan-gol Public Parking Building’ on the afternoon of the 19th. The newly built parking building on the north side of the existing Gosan-gol public parking lot has a total floor area of 3,799㎡, with one basement floor and three above-ground floors, providing 133 parking spaces. It was completed after about a year of construction, with a budget of approximately 6.6 billion KRW invested.

Gosan-gol had long suffered from severe parking shortages. Since the Gosan-gol Dinosaur Park was established in 2016 and events such as the Apsan footpath walking competition, forest humanities concerts, and Apsan Barefoot University have increased the number of participants in the Apsan and Gosan-gol areas, building a public parking lot became a long-standing demand. Accordingly, Nam-gu Office finalized the basic plan for expanding the Gosan-gol parking lot in 2020, secured national and city budgets, and began construction in January 2023.

The temporarily opened public parking lot will be free to use for one month after the completion ceremony, and based on parking demand and user characteristics, it will officially operate as a paid parking lot in late February. The parking building is equipped with a 24-hour unmanned payment system and elevators to provide convenient and safe public parking services.
