Gwangju Seo-gu 'Se·Keun·Dae Program' Open Recruitment

Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) announced on the 22nd that it is openly recruiting programs for the ‘The Largest University in the World (hereinafter Se·Keun·Dae)’ Seo-gu project, a brand initiative aimed at providing lifelong education tailored to residents' perspectives.

Last year, Seo-gu opened the ‘Se·Keun·Dae’ Seo-gu and established the Department of Citizen Participation, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Department of Culture and Arts. They are currently recruiting major and liberal arts courses and instructors to be operated in each department.

The Department of Citizen Participation is planned to operate as a citizen participation program for solving local issues, and is recruiting courses related to activist and leader training programs, as well as qualities and competencies required as democratic citizens.

Additionally, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences plans to operate programs that cultivate universal truths and values about life and knowledge, such as literature, history, and philosophy. The Department of Culture and Arts is recruiting programs that can cultivate the ability to enjoy and creativity in cultural arts such as music, fine arts, dance, film, and design.

Applicants for courses and instructors must meet at least one of the following three criteria: ▲graduated from the relevant department of a university or completed an educational course in the related field ▲have lecture experience or hold a certificate (including private certificates) in the relevant field ▲possess documents that recognize research and expertise related to the relevant field.

Applications can be submitted by visiting or mailing the lecture plan and instructor application form to the Se·Keun·Dae team at Seo-gu Office by the 1st of next month.

Seo-gu, the only district among the five autonomous districts without a university, planned the ‘Se·Keun·Dae’ Seo-gu, which operates the entire region as a university, and introduced an academic management system that awards an honorary citizen degree upon completion of a total of 100 hours, consisting of 40 hours of major courses and 60 hours of liberal arts courses.

Seo-gu is providing higher quality and more professional education by linking and cooperating with local universities such as Health University and Chosun Polytechnic University. This year, various educational programs operated by each department will be incorporated into and expanded under ‘Se·Keun·Dae’ Seo-gu.

Kim Minsuk, Director of the Education Library, said, “We will realize ‘lifelong education by my side,’ where residents can receive education anytime and anywhere they want, and create a successful model of ‘The Largest University in the World, Seo-gu.’”
