Nakdonggangcheong Conducts Comprehensive Inspection of Emissions from Operating Vehicles

Until March, Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam Regions

The Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office will conduct a joint inspection of vehicle emissions with the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam local governments until March, during the 5th Seasonal Fine Dust Management Period.

This inspection differs in that it simultaneously conducts emissions checks, which were previously carried out autonomously by local governments, at the same time to fundamentally block vehicles that emit excessive smoke.

During the seasonal management period, each city and county in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam will conduct inspections simultaneously on the second and fourth Mondays of every month.

In the two inspections conducted so far, a total of 14 vehicles emitting excessive smoke were detected, and improvement recommendations and vehicle maintenance notices were sent to the owners. A joint inspection will also be conducted on the 22nd.

The Nakdong River Office will provide a total of 49 billion KRW in national subsidies this year for low-emission measures for vehicles, such as installing smoke reduction devices and early scrapping, to reduce fine dust from old diesel vehicles that emit large amounts of air pollutants.

Chief Officer Choi Jong-won said, “To reduce fine dust, it is important for the public to take an interest and cooperate by inspecting vehicle emissions in advance,” and added, “We ask local governments and related organizations to actively promote fine dust reduction policies and support programs.”
