Gyeonggi-do Animal Hygiene Testing Center Strengthens Livestock Product Hygiene Management Ahead of Seollal Livestock Product Inspection

Gyeonggi Province is strengthening livestock product hygiene management ahead of the Seollal holiday.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory has prepared and is implementing measures to manage livestock product hygiene during the Seollal holiday, including extending slaughterhouse operating hours and enhancing livestock product safety inspections.

Ahead of Seollal, the Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory plans to increase the daily slaughter volume at eight slaughterhouses in the province to approximately 1,400 cattle and 12,000 pigs, which is a 40% increase for cattle and a 10% increase for pigs compared to normal times.

Accordingly, since early January, the slaughterhouse opening time has been moved forward from 7:30 AM to 7:00 AM to extend working hours, and slaughter inspections are being conducted even on holidays to ensure a smooth supply of livestock products.

In addition, to secure the safety of livestock products, the laboratory plans to supply safe meat by not only strengthening ante-mortem and post-mortem inspections of animals shipped from slaughterhouses but also expanding daily hygiene inspections of workplaces and microbial and antibiotic residue tests by up to 120%.

Park Kyung-ae, director of the Gyeonggi Provincial Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory, stated, "As the Seollal holiday is the peak consumption season for livestock products, we will do our best in livestock product inspections and hygiene management so that residents can consume livestock products with confidence."
