Pohang City has selected two varieties, ‘Samgwang’ and ‘Anpyeong’, as the public stockpiling rice purchase varieties for the 2025 harvest.
On the 19th, Pohang City held the '2025 Public Grain Stockpiling Rice Variety Selection Review Meeting' at the Agricultural Technology Center.
On the 19th, Pohang City held the ‘2025 Public Stockpiling Rice Purchase Variety Selection Review Meeting’ attended by 12 review committee members including city officials, representatives from the Agricultural Products Quality Management Service, agricultural organizations, rice producer groups, and Nonghyup officials to ensure stable supply of rice seeds, and selected the two varieties ‘Samgwang’ and ‘Anpyeong’.
During the review meeting, discussions were held on several candidate varieties, and after gathering farmers’ cultivation intentions and preferences and considering the characteristics of each variety and their suitability to the region, the two varieties were decided upon.
‘Samgwang’ and ‘Anpyeong’, which have been selected as purchase varieties for three consecutive years since 2023, are characterized by strong lodging resistance, pest and disease resistance, and excellent taste.
Lodging resistance refers to the ability of crops to withstand wind and rain without falling over.
In particular, Anpyeong rice is highly resistant to lodging and pests, has excellent cultivation stability, and has received outstanding evaluations in all categories including shape, taste, and sticky texture. It was also selected as the highest quality rice by the Rural Development Administration in 2020.
Jung Kyung-won, director of the Agricultural Technology Center, said, “We will do our best to ensure smooth supply of high-quality Samgwang and Anpyeong seeds, which were selected as the 2025 public stockpiling rice purchase varieties,” and added, “We will actively promote the characteristics and cultivation precautions of each variety to farmers to further enhance the competitiveness of Pohang rice.”
