Seoul Jung-gu to Hold '2024 Jung-gu Budget Briefing with Seoul City' at Shinsegae Namsan Trinity Hall, Jangchung-dong on 24th at 10:30 AM
Jung-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gil-seong) will hold the "2024 Jung-gu Budget Briefing with Seoul City" at 10:30 AM on the 24th at Shinsegae Namsan Trinity Hall in Jangchung-dong (180 Jangchungdan-ro).
Mayor Oh Se-hoon will attend to brief on the 2024 Seoul city budget and administrative operation directions, and Jung-gu Mayor Kim Gil-seong will introduce projects jointly promoted by Seoul City and Jung-gu.
Jung-gu is advancing major projects with Seoul City that will transform the urban landscape.
Representative projects include ▲ Operation of Myeongdong Outdoor Advertising Free Display Zone ▲ Construction of K-POP Complex Cultural Facility in Hunryeonwon Park ▲ Promotion of Urban Core Innovation Projects with Residents ▲ Revitalization of Global Tourism Market and Shinjungang Market Commercial Area ▲ Construction of Gwanghui-dong Dongdaemun Transfer Public Parking Lot to alleviate downtown parking difficulties.
If Jung-gu’s projects, which play a key role in the heart of Seoul, proceed smoothly, the benefits can extend to the entire city. Furthermore, with bold deregulation and public support, the residential environment in the urban core will be dramatically improved, leading to population inflow, urban revitalization, and serving as a driving force for Seoul’s growth as an international city.
Last year brought many welcome developments to Jung-gu, most of which were based on close cooperation with Seoul City. A prime example is the easing of the Namsan height restriction, which had hindered regional development for 30 years. Seoul City, Jung-gu, and Jung-gu residents communicated over a long period, publicized local issues, and derived reasonable solutions.
Jung-gu Sindang 10 District became the first site for Seoul City’s Rapid Integrated Planning, effectively utilizing the program. Through public support via direct establishment by the association, it achieved over 75% consent within just 36 days after designation as a maintenance zone, and completed the inaugural general meeting and association establishment in less than six months, setting a record. The redevelopment project in Jungnim-dong 398 area is diligently following Sindang 10 District’s record.
The designation of Myeongdong Tourism Special Zone as an Outdoor Advertising Free Display Zone is another major achievement by Jung-gu. Myeongdong has gained explosive momentum to soar as an international city, becoming Korea’s Times Square. If the Myeongdong Outdoor Advertising Free Display Zone is successfully established, an advertising revenue of approximately 160 billion KRW is expected, generating significant economic effects. In particular, if Euljiro 1-ga Intersection is selected as a target for the intersection traffic island improvement project, the promotion of the Free Display Zone is expected to gain further momentum, according to the district.
Last year, Shinjungang Market was selected for Seoul City’s Design Innovation Traditional Market Project, receiving investment support exceeding 10 billion KRW. Going forward, Shinjungang Market is expected to transform into a global tourism market with innovative designs applied to facilities such as arcades. Jung-gu is currently constructing a connecting passage between Sindang Station and Sindang Underground Shopping Center to facilitate easy access to Shinjungang Market. With Seoul City’s support, Shinjungang Market is expected to smoothly leap forward as a global tourism market.
Jung-gu Mayor Kim Gil-seong stated, “Jung-gu and Seoul City have worked together to untangle complex knots and achieve valuable results,” adding, “We will continue to cooperate closely with Seoul City to restore urban functions and promote development not only in Jung-gu but throughout Seoul.”
