All 23 Establishments Tested, Seoul Institute of Health and Environment Results All 'Suitable'
Five Tests Including Turbidity, E. coli, Legionella... Not Detected or Below Standard
Joint Inspection Conducted Ahead of Winter with Increasing Visitors, Heightened Hygiene Management
All public bathhouses located in Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) have passed the bathtub water quality inspection.
The bathtub water quality inspection is conducted annually to ensure the safety and hygiene of users. Last year, the inspection was carried out on 23 establishments excluding those that were closed, in collaboration with the Seoul Institute of Health and Environment to verify compliance with bathing water quality standards.
The inspection items include five factors: turbidity, permanganate consumption, coliform bacteria, and others. Additionally, places using circulating bathtub water undergo an extra test for Legionella bacteria.
The results showed that all establishments were deemed suitable. No coliform bacteria were detected, and the other four items were either undetected or below the standard levels, proving the hygiene status.
Going forward, the district will continue to strictly manage hygiene in bathhouse businesses. Extra vigilance will be maintained during the winter season when the number of users increases. Before the start of each winter, joint public-private inspections are conducted to raise awareness among bathhouse operators.
District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho stated, “Public hygiene management is a critical issue directly related to the safety of residents,” adding, “We will thoroughly monitor the water quality of bathhouses so that everyone can use them with confidence.”
