Undergraduate and Graduate Tuition Fees Frozen for 16 Years
Suncheon National University (President Lee Byung-woon) announced on the 17th that it held a tuition review committee meeting and decided to freeze undergraduate and graduate tuition fees this year as well, following last year.
Suncheon National University has frozen tuition fees for 16 years since the 2009 academic year.
The tuition fees for undergraduates at National Suncheon University for the 2024 academic year are 1,650,000 KRW per semester for humanities and social sciences, 1,990,000 KRW for natural sciences, and 2,160,000 KRW for engineering.
According to the University Information Disclosure (based on 2023 data), the average annual tuition fee for 4-year universities is 6,782,000 KRW, and the average tuition fee for national universities (excluding special-purpose universities) is 4,109,000 KRW. Suncheon National University’s average annual tuition fee is 3,951,000 KRW, maintaining a low level even among all national universities.
Regarding the decision to freeze tuition fees, President Lee Byung-woon of National Suncheon University said, “Although university financial management is difficult due to increases in public utility fees and a sharp decline in the school-age population leading to a decrease in new student enrollment rates, we aim to fulfill the responsibilities of a national university and minimize the burden on students and parents by utilizing additional funds secured through recent selections such as Glocal University 30, designation as a specialized local university, and the National University Development Project.” He added, “We will do our best to minimize the burden on students while improving the quality of education through winning various government financial support projects.”
Meanwhile, National Suncheon University is actively working on improving the campus environment and developing educational programs with funds secured through the Glocal University 30 project, which supports 100 billion KRW over five years, and by achieving an A grade in the incentive evaluation of the National University Development Project.
