16 Programs on "Care, the Power That Sustains the World" Open for Registration from the 17th on Seogang Library Website...Humanities Lecture by Professor Kim Ho from Different Class...Puppet Shows, Exhibitions, and Events Starting from the 24th
Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Gang-su) Public Seogang Library is celebrating its 16th anniversary with a variety of events under the theme "Care, the Power that Sustains the World," running from the 24th of this month until the end of March.
At Seogang Library, a total of 16 programs will be held, including exhibitions and events open to all visitors, as well as humanities lectures and children's puppet shows that require online pre-registration.
To mark its 16th anniversary, Seogang Library has planned a special exhibition titled "'Between 'Exists' and 'Existed'," showcasing independent publications from 2008, the year the library was established, along with lectures and workshops. The exhibition will be open to the public from January 24 through the end of March.
The lectures and workshops will be held in four sessions, inviting active independent publishers (Sinclair, Hello Indie Books, Book Damas, Haehae Books) to meet with readers.
Among the online pre-registration programs, the first is a humanities lecture titled "Dasan Jeong Yak-yong, Silhak Answering the Future," which began registration on January 17. The lecture revisits the thoughts of Dasan Jeong Yak-yong and the value of Silhak with Professor Kim Ho, who advised the popular drama "Byeolsungeom" and appeared on "Different Class." It will be held every Wednesday evening from February 7 to February 28.
There is also a picture book puppet show that explores the inner feelings of the abandoned dog Yeongnam. The program offers a time to reflect on caring for other lives and to continue drawing Yeongnam’s story. It is scheduled for 7 p.m. on February 15 for 20 elementary school students, with registration starting on February 1.
Additionally, there will be an opportunity to meet the original illustrations and the author of the picture book "1795, King Jeongjo’s Happy Procession," which was reconstructed based on the Uigwe (royal protocols) and pictorial records documenting King Jeongjo’s Hwaseong Royal Procession in 1795, a topic that has attracted much attention.
Furthermore, each reading room will host the "Beat the Librarian!" event, where lucky participants can borrow more books, and the "Kindness Battle," encouraging warm exchanges of kind words among visitors.
Detailed information and online pre-registration for each program are available on the Seogang Library website. For inquiries, please contact or visit the Seogang Library Cultural Team.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "In 2024, the Year of the Blue Dragon, Seogang Library, which has entered a vibrant youth phase, has prepared a rich program to repay the love and care it has received from residents. We ask for the active interest and participation of the community."
