Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (Director Lee Seyong) reported that Hanul Unit 3 (Pressurized Water Reactor, 1,000 MW class) has been reducing its output since 6 p.m. on the 18th at the request of the Korea Power Exchange, and the turbine was manually stopped around 2 a.m. on the 19th.
This action was taken due to the detection of partial discharge in the gas-insulated busbar connecting the transformer and transmission line of Hanul Unit 3. The Hanul Headquarters plans to stop the turbine for repair of the faulty part and maintain the reactor output at about 10% during the maintenance period.
The Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters stated, “There is no impact on nuclear power plant safety due to the equipment issue, and power generation will resume once the maintenance is completed.”
