The Cyber Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 18th that, upon request to the Ministry of Justice, they imposed a travel ban on soccer player Hwang Ui-jo (32, Nottingham Forest), who is accused of illegal filming and secondary victimization, on the 16th.
The police reportedly took this measure to prevent Hwang from leaving the country as he repeatedly failed to comply with summons requests until the investigation is concluded.
In response, Hwang's side filed a request for disqualification of the investigator with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Office of Audit, Inspection, and Human Rights on the 17th, the following day, claiming "excessive investigation caused unauthorized absence from the team."
Earlier, the police summoned Hwang as a suspect for questioning on November 18 last year. Subsequently, they sent a first summons with a deadline of December 27, but when Hwang's side stated that attendance was difficult due to team circumstances, a second summons was issued.
Hwang reportedly appeared privately before the police on the 12th and 15th of this month and testified to the effect that "the victim was aware of the filming but did not express refusal."
In June last year, a netizen who claimed to be Hwang's ex-girlfriend shared photos and videos of Hwang and women on Instagram and filed a complaint with the police accusing the netizen of threats and other charges. During the investigation, the police detected signs of illegal filming and changed Hwang's status to that of a suspect.
Meanwhile, Hwang and one of his lawyers were additionally booked on charges of secondary victimization for disclosing personal information that could identify the victim through a statement.
