According to the Gyeongbuk Election Commission, A is accused of inviting prospective candidate B to an internal event attended only by public officials, introducing B's candidacy, and greeting attendees, thereby campaigning to public officials.
According to Article 60 (Persons Prohibited from Election Campaigning) Paragraph 1, Subparagraph 4 of the Public Official Election Act, public officials are prohibited from election campaigning, and violations are punishable by imprisonment of up to three years or a fine of up to 6 million won.
The Gyeongbuk Election Commission stated that acts involving public officials, who must observe political neutrality, in election activities are very serious criminal offenses. They emphasized that thorough investigations and strict measures will be taken in accordance with laws and principles, and pledged to make every effort to ensure a fair election.
