Samsung Electronics has announced the dawn of the artificial intelligence (AI) phone era. The Galaxy S24 series, unveiled on the 17th (local time), incorporates AI technology into core functions such as calls, camera, messaging, and notes to offer users a new experience. Samsung expressed confidence, saying, "Once you start using it, you won't be able to go back."

Hwang Jeong-ho, a pro at Samsung Electronics MX Division who planned the Galaxy S24 series, held a press briefing at the Taepyeong-ro Building in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the same day. He introduced, "Through the Galaxy S24 series, we have opened the AI phone era, moving beyond the feature phone and smartphone eras," and added, "Galaxy AI is a tool that realizes free communication and a new level of creativity." Furthermore, Pro Hwang predicted high satisfaction with Galaxy AI, saying, "Once you start using it, you will never go back."

A Closer Look at AI's Subtle Features

The Galaxy S24 not only offers real-time translation and interpretation but also allows users to change the tone or style of messages when writing texts or chatting in applications. It can switch between five different tones for communicating with friends, talking to a boss at work, posting on social networking services (SNS), and more. During this, Galaxy AI also checks for typos and spelling errors, and the translation function is available as well.

AI technology is also integrated into the camera and photo apps to provide magical experiences. A photo capturing a normal shot toward a basketball hoop can be transformed into a dunk shot photo. This is possible because you can select the subject and move it to the desired position. The empty space is intelligently filled by generative AI trained on countless images. When straightening a tilted photo, it naturally generates images at the edges without any size loss. While a video is playing, pressing and holding the screen converts it to slow motion for a detailed view.

After taking a photo with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus, I tried using the 'Erase Shadow' feature. Comparing the photo before erasing the hand shadow (left) and after erasing it (right), you can see faint traces remaining.

When taking photos with the camera app and uploading them to SNS, you may have experienced annoyance due to reflections of yourself in windows or hand shadows. With the Galaxy S24, you can easily remove light reflections and shadows. After the press briefing, there was an opportunity to try the actual product. Using the light reflection and shadow removal features, the results were relatively satisfactory, though not 100% perfect.

What Are the Strengths of the Ultimate 'Ultra' Model?

The Ultra model, the highest-spec among the Galaxy S24 series, is equipped with the 'Snapdragon 8 Gen 3' application processor (AP) through collaboration with Qualcomm to maximize AI usability.

Additionally, the Ultra's front display features the newly applied 'Corning Gorilla Armor.' Corning's new glass reduces light reflectance by up to 75% compared to regular glass, allowing comfortable screen viewing even outdoors. The Ultra is the first to introduce the 'Quad Tele System,' which provides high resolution even when zooming in. Durability is also four times higher than conventional glass, eliminating worries about scratches when carrying the phone with keys or coins in your pocket. The Ultra applies a titanium material to the device frame, giving it a sleek and luxurious feel.

There is good news for mobile gamers as well. It supports 'ray tracing,' which provides natural and lifelike visual graphics for immersive gaming experiences. The Ultra optimizes its cooling system with a 'vapor chamber' that is up to 1.9 times larger, enabling longer stable gameplay.

Environmental considerations were also made. The Galaxy S24 uses various recycled materials, including recycled plastic, aluminum, and glass. Limited resources such as cobalt and rare earth elements are recycled and used in the battery and speaker parts. The Galaxy S24 package box is made from 100% recycled paper.
