CEO "Confidently Eat Without Hesitation, Even More Absurd"
Unauthorized Eating May Constitute Theft
Some cafes occasionally allow part-time workers to make and drink beverages for free. However, this is only possible with the owner's permission. Among these, a story from a cafe owner troubled by a part-time worker who drinks and takes store beverages without permission has been shared.
Recently, on the self-employed community 'Apeunikka Sajangida' (Because It Hurts, I'm the Boss), a post titled 'Part-time worker drinks beverages at will from the second day of employment' was uploaded. The author, A, who revealed that they run a cafe, said, "We have several part-time workers at the store," and added, "They usually drink about two beverages a day at the store. I never told them to, but it just happened that way."

The problem was the attitude of the newly hired part-time worker. A said, "(The new part-time worker) is very big in size. From just the second day, they openly drink smoothies and canned beverages as they please, and even confidently take out drinks in takeaway cups when leaving," expressing frustration. They continued, "They said they had experience working at other stores, and I think they must have done the same there," adding, "It's absurd how they drink so confidently without any hesitation."
Netizens who read the story responded with comments such as, "It seems necessary to clearly inform them like 'One drink per day for part-time workers,'" "The problem is that they act as if it's completely natural," and "They should have been told before starting work that they can drink one beverage during working hours but desserts are not allowed."
Meanwhile, there was a lawsuit related to this issue in 2021. A cafe owner sued a part-time worker for theft, claiming the worker made and drank beverages without permission during work hours while demanding weekly holiday pay. However, in that case, the owner had previously informed the worker that drinking one beverage during work was allowed, so the theft charge was not upheld. Nevertheless, as in previous cases, if part-time workers consume beverages, desserts, or canned drinks without the owner's permission, theft charges may apply later, so special caution is required.
