According to a report released on the 17th (local time) by Australian education finance company Futurety Investment Group, the average education cost for sending children to public schools from kindergarten through 12th grade (13 years) in major Australian cities such as Sydney and Melbourne is 92,700 AUD (approximately 82 million KRW). Tuition fees accounted for only 4% of the total cost. The rest was spent on extracurricular activities, electronic devices, uniforms, and school supplies.

The education costs are much higher when sending children to Catholic or private schools. Attending a Catholic school in a metropolitan area for 13 years costs an average of 195,000 AUD (approximately 172 million KRW), while private schools cost 317,000 AUD (approximately 280 million KRW). These amounts are more than twice and three times the private education costs incurred when attending public schools, respectively.

In particular, in Sydney, where education costs are the highest in Australia, sending a child to a private school for 13 years requires a payment of 378,000 AUD (approximately 332 million KRW). Tuition fees account for 23% of the total education cost at Catholic schools and 55% at private schools.

Sam Sondy, CEO of Futurety, explained, "With the recent high inflation rate continuing in Australia, the burden of education costs has also increased significantly," adding, "Education costs this year are expected to rise by more than 5% compared to last year."
