KIB Plug Energy announced on the 18th that BK Dongyoung Tech, which is scheduled to be incorporated as a subsidiary, has signed a secondary battery supply contract worth 30.9 billion KRW with G-Star Mobility. The secondary battery in question is a lithium-free solid-state (LFS) battery, a type of all-solid-state battery, and it will be installed in Baedal Minjok electric motorcycles.
Under this contract, BK Dongyoung Tech will supply batteries for approximately 30,000 new electric motorcycles by 2026. Considering the replacement of existing internal combustion engine motorcycles as well as potential demand for home-use and shared electric motorcycles, the contract scale is expected to expand further.
G-Star Mobility is a mobility OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specialized company with a track record of producing and supplying shared electric bicycles to KT. It is exporting and promoting its products domestically as well as to the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
A KIB Plug Energy official stated, "The battery supplied this time can operate at a speed of 65 km/h for up to 200 km with a one-hour charge once a day," adding, "The supply contract was made based on the advantage that there is no risk of overheating even during fast charging, and energy efficiency is secured even at a minimum temperature of minus 40 degrees Celsius."
BK Dongyoung Tech is a company that produces lithium-free solid-state batteries and energy storage systems (ESS). On the 17th, KIB Plug Energy announced that it would acquire 51% of BK Dongyoung Tech’s shares.
A BK Dongyoung Tech official said, "We have proven our all-solid-state battery technology through supplying secondary batteries to the largest domestic delivery platform," and added, "Our batteries are NCM (Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese) batteries that fully meet the government’s subsidy payment criteria."
They continued, "We will continue to strive to expand eco-friendly energy businesses and reduce carbon emissions."
