An observant employee notices appearance change
Pays extra individual fee after being caught during meal
There was a case where twins tried to save on the cost of one person by taking turns entering a buffet, but they were caught by an employee.
Recently, KNN, a local broadcaster in Busan and Gyeongnam, introduced a story from an employee who witnessed an ingenious method of dining and dashing at a buffet. The broadcast reported that buffet employee A noticed a suspicious scene while watching a middle school student and his mother. Employee A felt that the student's hair length and style had subtly changed after the student said he was going to the restroom and briefly stepped outside. Additionally, the student who initially sat down had a large mole near his eye, but the student who returned did not have that mole.
Employee A became suspicious of the guests and thought, "Could they be twins?" and immediately reported this to the manager. The manager, upon hearing the report, dismissed it lightly, saying, "Are you writing a novel?" However, the store manager, who was listening nearby and curious, checked the CCTV footage and confirmed that A's observation was true.
The store manager approached the guests and said, "We won't report this, but please pay for three people." The mother replied, "Then we will pay for three," and made a phone call somewhere. It was later reported that the student who first entered came back, and the three of them finished their meal together.
Netizens who heard the story reacted with comments such as, "It doesn't seem like they don't have money, this is just outrageous," "They should pay ten times the one-person fee," and "What are they teaching their kids?"
Meanwhile, dining and dashing is punishable as a minor offense. According to the Minor Offenses Act, dining and dashing can result in a fine of up to 100,000 won, or penalties such as fines, detention, or surcharge. If habitual or intentional, it can be charged as 'fraud' under the Criminal Act. The penalty for fraud can be imprisonment for up to 10 years or a fine of up to 20 million won.
