Gyeongbuk Yeongdeok-gun, Full Effort in Early Response to African Swine Fever Outbreak

County Governor Kim Gwang-yeol: "Full Mobilization of Available Resources for Highest-Level Response"

Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, has initiated an early response to the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the region.


Yeongdeok-gun announced on the 17th that it immediately operated a quarantine countermeasure situation room and held an emergency countermeasure meeting to respond after ASF was detected on the 16th.


On the 15th, 12 pigs suspected of having African Swine Fever (ASF) at a pig farm in Chuksan-myeon were confirmed positive as of 6 p.m. on the 16th following a detailed investigation by the Gyeongsangbuk-do Animal Hygiene Laboratory.

Gyeongbuk Yeongdeok-gun, Full Effort in Early Response to African Swine Fever Outbreak Kim Kwang-yeol, the governor of Yeongdeok County, is presiding over an emergency countermeasure meeting regarding the outbreak of African swine fever.

Accordingly, Yeongdeok-gun immediately deployed an emergency initial quarantine team to close off the area and began disinfecting the surroundings.


After conducting an on-site investigation for culling on the same day, all 482 pigs raised at the farm are scheduled to be culled by rendering by 9 p.m. on the 19th.


In response to this ASF outbreak, Yeongdeok-gun established a quarantine countermeasure situation room immediately upon the positive diagnosis and held an emergency countermeasure meeting at 9 a.m. the following day, presided over by Kim Gwang-yeol, the mayor of Yeongdeok-gun, focusing all efforts on early response.


The county is operating base disinfection stations and disinfection vehicles in the affected area and deploying initial quarantine teams to concentrate on disinfection and quarantine, while controlling the site by restricting movement on transportation networks connected to the area.


Furthermore, thorough post-management of burial sites where culling has taken place will be conducted to prevent transmission and environmental issues. Detailed and clinical inspections near the infected farms and weekly clinical surveillance will be carried out to preemptively block the spread of infection.


Mayor Kim Gwang-yeol of Yeongdeok-gun stated, “The most important thing is a strong early response,” and instructed, “Mobilize all available human and material resources to implement the highest level of response and completely block the spread of African Swine Fever.”
