By February This Year, 64 Teams and 2,000 Athletes Scheduled for Winter Training
As national teams continue to visit Mokpo City, Jeollanam-do for winter training camps, the local economy is receiving a significant boost.
According to the city on the 17th, as of January, about 400 athletes and coaches from seven sports, including Kyung Hee University basketball team, Korea Women's Football Federation elementary division teams, and Seoul Yeongnam Middle School baseball team, are sweating it out to improve their skills.
The city expects that during the winter training period, which continues until next month, approximately 2,000 athletes from 64 teams across nine sports such as soccer, athletics, and basketball will visit and train in Mokpo.
In particular, as Mokpo establishes itself as a mecca for training camps, the city anticipates that the number of athletes visiting during this winter training period will far exceed last year's winter and summer training camp records.
Additionally, from the end of next month, a youth stove league featuring about 300 participants from eight U-12 youth teams affiliated with the Korea Football Association is scheduled, which is expected to greatly support the local economy during the off-season for tourism.
The city provides various benefits to athletes training in Mokpo, including support for sports facility usage fees, convenience services tailored to each sport, and training incentives such as Mokpo Love Gift Certificates.
Moreover, the city operates a dedicated training support team to handle any inconveniences arising during training, ensuring that the athletes can focus on their training in optimal conditions without any difficulties.
Mayor Park Hong-ryul stated, “With more teams visiting compared to last year due to the effects of hosting the 104th National Sports Festival and the 43rd National Para Games, we will do our best to create an environment where athletes can concentrate on their training without any inconvenience,” adding, “We will actively attract training teams through continuous investment in sports infrastructure and improvements in training camp environments.”
